“ARTISTS’ FREE PLAY”

4th ANNUAL JURIED ART CONTEST

JUNE 11-JULY 3, 2011

Matt Duckett, La Crosse, captures best of show for the second time in the 4th annual juried art show of the Walls of Wittenberg.  Duckett’s oil of a violinist is exquisitely detailed, capturing the musician’s rapt engagement with his instrument.  Duckett is a member of the Vitamin Studio in La Crosse. In 2009, with Jenn Bushman, he created the “Color Find-ness” mural on the office of a Wittenberg optometrist.

Awards of Excellence were given to Elizabeth Groshek, Neenah, a recent St. Norbert’s graduate, for “Untitled,” a digital composite image; Bonita Kostrzak, Ogdensburg, for “First Ride,” an oil on canvas; and Cindy Martin, Antigo, for her watercolor “Lake Antigo.”

Awards of Honor were received by Jenn Bushman, La Crosse, for “Cabbage Red,” an oil on canvas; Julia Collins, Wauwatosa, for the watercolor—“Monty and Linda;” and Sharon Rotz, Mosinee, for her textile wall hanging, “Potamogeton Rising.”

The show—“Artist’s Free Play”—brought more than 80 works of art from 44 different artists from 26 different cities, towns, villages, and cross roads across Wisconsin.

The work was displayed in the WOWSPACE, a gem of an event space in an elegantly restored former mercantile store of the 1880’s.
